It's Halloween season, a time for getting your spooky on and remembering our loved ones who have returned to the universe. First mentioned in the 9th century and associated with important events in Irish mythology, Samhain was a 'threshold festival', meaning a time when the boundaries between our world and that of the spirits were closer, so that spirits could more easily visit this world. Dead family were thought to visit on Samhain and so a place was set for them during the Samhain meal.
